Summary- With all of the cutbacks and job loss in the country today, it’s hard to maintain a positive attitude. However, as long as you take the time to look into the good side of things and find where good things are happening, you might be able to enjoy optimism. It will be hard, but these tips should help.

Every day, and sometimes every hour, new news stories pop up about who’s cutting jobs, where cuts are being made and what it means for the economy. You can’t log on to any news or information website or turn on the TV news without hearing or seeing a story about some company, somewhere in the country, cutting jobs. Add that to all the updates about jobless rates and unemployment rising in various cities and states around the U.S. and it can become a very disheartening situation for anyone to live in.

You can’t very well ignore the news because it’s always important to keep up on what is going on in the world. However, what you can do is to take a minute to accept that these stories will be there and try to look for the good anywhere that you can. News stations and companies aren’t that great at reporting the small victories that happen every day, because the big letdowns like corporate downsizing and companies going under is often more important. However, you can find your own small victories as long as you know where to look. Focus on stories that inspire you and talk about people finding jobs or creating new ones. Look at any place that is being created and adding jobs to the economy, because they count big time right now.

Do whatever it takes to find the good in all the bad that’s out there, and make sure that you have put yourself in a position to not let the bad get you down. No one likes to see people losing their jobs or lose their own, but it’s happening, and all that you can do is try to make the best of it in any way that you can. Whether you choose to find more enlightening news to read, or just try to forget about what’s going on around you, you need to make sure that you don’t let the job cuts and economic recession get you stressed, depressed, or questioning your security.

No one really has job security right now, but you still shouldn’t wander around with the stress on your shoulders of worrying about whether you’re going to have a job or not tomorrow, next week, or next month. Just focus on the now, and try to be prepared so that if the worst does happen to you, you’re ready for it. Many professionals predict that things won’t get back to normal for another 3-5 years or longer, so you might as well get used to it if you can’t find ways to tune it out.

Summary- Job loss affects everyone on a large scale, because the economy becomes a little worse with every layoff. However, when it’s the Department of Defense cutting jobs, are things going too far? Or do they have too many overpaid employees anyway? Read on to find out more!

When a retail store cuts jobs, it doesn’t affect anyone except the store. When they close down, it affects the employees and the customers. When a business cuts back, again it only affects the company itself. However, what happens when the Defense Department starts cutting jobs? Is the country going to be safe? How many cutbacks are too many and will they still be able to protect us?

Everyone knows that the U.S. Department of Defense is one of the biggest and best in the world. Many would argue that it probably is a bit of overkill, but no one really knows for sure. The Pentagon is preparing to cut weapons spending which will put many big-name defense contractors out of a job. Of course, they probably already have enough weapons to take on the world, but without knowing for sure can you really trust that the country is safe? It is highly unlikely that the country will ever be in imminent danger, but it’s a little frightening to even have to question. With all of the job cuts going on in the world, this is one of the most serious ones that have happened yet.

The country almost lost its banks, it has lost a lot of great companies, and now it’s cutting back its Defense purchases. Whoever thought that this wasn’t a serious issue needs to think again. Some people tried to brush the recession under the animal print rugs or say that it wasn’t a serious issue. However, it’s not just small-town Americans losing jobs. The country is being faced with some serious issues that will surely make people realize the significance of the recession that is going on. There isn’t any imminent effect on U.S. security or protection due to the cuts by the Department of Defense, but it is surely going to cost some more people their jobs at some point.

Here we know some new gossip from golf and stars:

Monty favourite for victory

It’s not often we here those words anymore. However, Europe’s Ryder Cup skipper is playing in this week’s Egyptian Open and Sky Bet’s golf compilers have even gone to the trouble of pricing the event up, making Montgomerie the 3/1 favourite. The opposition? Several European Challenge Tour players, some Egyptian-based professionals as well as local and regional amateurs. So is big Colin just there to rack up a confidence-boosting win? Maybe, but the fact that he has his first Egyptian course design project underway at Citystars at Sharm el Sheikh may just have something to do with it.

Office star set to appear in golf movie

Fan of golf? Fan of the American Office? If so, you may be interested to hear that the US David Brent, Steve Carell, is rumoured to be appearing in “Missing Links,” a golf comedy based on a novel from ESPN’s irreverant golf writer Rick Reilly. “Carell has turned overconfident, deluded characters into a specialty both with his Michael Scott role on “The Office” and in development projects like “Brigadier Gerard,” says the Hollywood Reporter who broke the news. Any chance of Ricky Gervais being given a cameo? After all, he did have a Full Swing Golf simulator installed at his London home last year.

His name is on the trophy

It’s one of those things we like to say when a player gets the rub of the green or flukes a long shot. “Oh yes,” we chuckle, “it looks like his name is on the trophy today.” Well, on the Tour de las Americas this week that phrase can be used from the first tee with no doubt whatsoever. Why so? Well the event is being played in Paraguay and is a celebration of the nation’s finest golfer. It is called the Carlos Franco Invitational, is being played at the Carlos Franco Golf and Country Club and one of the favourites to win is, err, Carlos Franco. It may seem to be an ego-trip of monumental proportions, but give Carlos a break: he built the course himself, he’s co-funded the event and the profits are being ploughed back into the Carlos Franco bank account. Only kidding – the chief benficiary is Paraguayan golf.

You say tomato, I say tournament

The Ladies European Tour plays the second event of its short Asian Swing this week on the honeymooners island of Jeju. These days tournaments (especially in the States) can have some rather peculiar titles, but few have been quite as baffling as this one – the Daishin Securities Tomato Tour Korean Ladies Masters. So many questions, so few answers. Do the tomatoes need protection? What is a “tomato tour”? Is it something to keep the honeymooners occupied during the day? The event takes place at the Cypress Country Club, but you can’t help thinking it should be at Cherry Hills, or the Vines, or even Plum Creek. We’d continue with the lame gags but our knowledge of tomato types has run dry (unless someone knows of a Beefeater Golf and Country Club).

Tuning into Twitter

We’re of the firm belief that golfers, more than any other sportspeople, make the best tweeters. And if, say, you’ve had a bet and want to know how your player is feeling and there’s nothing from official sources then make a beeline for Twitter. Soon after finishing his opening round in the HSBC, @Oliver_Wilson revealed: “Happy with -1 which was good considering swung it like my dad for 9 holes.Birdie, birdie finish was needed.Hopefully swing turns up tomorrow!” And from Paul Casey, who is returning from injury: “Very happy with -5 today. Must admit I had no idea how today was going to go. Nice to be back on the course.” And “Put the new Vr driver into play today. @nikegolf have a picture of which position I had the Str8Fit in. I think it’s given me 5 extra yards.” In fact, they’re doing well to keep us informed. As Supertweeter @Ianjamespoulter revealed: “Hello twitter friends sorry for not keeping you up 2 speed, china doesn’t allow social networking sites, so doing it from my berry.” Meanwhile, over at @PGA_JohnDaly: “I think I need 3-4 buckets of KFC and some gravy and I can take care of it! haha.”And “Waiting to see how many people use the lingo from SouthPark at Stugis this year! They may just get their a$$ kicked—ya think? LOL.”

On-off, off-on

In the week that

Responding to comments by Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo, the archbishop of Asuncion said the Catholic Church has no reason to reconsider the church discipline of celibacy for Latin-rite priests.

Archbishop Eustaquio Cuquejo Verga told the Paraguayan newspaper La Nacion, “Celibacy is celibacy” and that, as a former bishop, Lugo “is aware of the rules of the Catholic Church.”

In an interview published June 11 in Chile’s El Mercurio newspaper, Lugo said the church should rethink its stance on celibacy. The president’s administration was rocked in April by revelations that he had fathered a child after he had resigned as bishop, but before being laicized by the Vatican, while he was running for the presidency.

Lugo legally recognized the boy, who is now 2 years old. Two other women also claimed Lugo had fathered children with them, although he has called the claims “allegations.”

After spending Father’s Day with the child June 21, he said the boy was his “only son.”

On June 22, Benigna Leguizamon, 26 — who filed a paternity suit against Lugo in April, saying he had fathered her 6-year-old son — told a radio interviewer that Lugo had raped her when he was bishop and she was 17. The president denied the charge, calling it “chapter two” of a soap opera. A third woman who claimed in April that Lugo had fathered her child has not filed a paternity claim.

In the interview with El Mercurio, Lugo said, “There is an imperfect celibacy, a human celibacy, that helps provide greater freedom for pastoral work. I believe celibacy is a value within the church, which should be seen as a sign of the kingdom of God. When that sign has been lost, I believe it is time to rethink celibacy today in Latin America and in the world.”

Saying he did “not want to hide anything,” Lugo added: “There are moments in life when emotions and love know no age or situation. There are people who make one’s heart beat faster.”

Lugo said his experience as a pastor helped him learn to listen, and that he believes “more than ever in a liberating God, a loving God who is always present in our lives.” He added, “One thing I never want to do is leave the Catholic Church, in which I was born.”

Lugo, who was sworn in last August, is scheduled to serve until 2013. After serving his term in office, he said, he hopes to “combine politics and religion” in his life.

“I will go live outside the city and review many aspects of my life and will try to make a contribution to society,” he said.
